About René Caovilla Brand

A success story that started at the dawn of the twentieth century with pioneer Edoardo Caovilla who took a road that was halfway between craftsmanship and couture, with the vision and audacity to amaze the world. In the fifties his son René Fernando (born in 1938) developed his own inspiration by moving towards art and experimenting with a transversal approach.

He concentrated on the top end of the market and became a sculpture of sophisticated shoes, creating elegant jewelled creations and sensual, ultra precious chaussures. During these years, thanks to his high designer credentials, Caovilla established his unique style gaining an important place globally in the luxury shoes industry.

In the seventies an exceptional stylist, Valentino Garavani, sought out Rene’ Caovilla to design for his haute couture accessories range. Cult objects and fetish creations bearing the label “Valentino by René Caovilla” were created.

Then there was the partnership that would last for several years with another legendary fashion house, Christian Dior, John Galliano, with whom Caovilla designed dreamlike and imaginative creations for the Paris catwalks. Then there was the period with Chanel and contact with the artistic genius of Karl Lagerfeld.

Since 2000, thanks to growing success of the brand, came the decision to consolidate a unique collection, taking inspiration from everything around him, even the most subtle suggestions. Anticipating the dreams of the customers and staying true to the seasonal trends, the collections see a strong link between tradition and research, craftsmanship together with innovative techniques.

Skilled embroiderers work on the shoes with dedication and love to create real works of art, pure testimony to the real Made in Italy. Maximum attention is paid to details, stitching and finishing touches to give the final customer jewelled sandals that are a delight to behold and fit the shape of the female foot better.

In 2004 the first mono-brand René Caovilla boutique was opened in Milan, followed by Paris, Rome, Venice, London and the recently inaugurated shop in shop in the Rinascente department store in Milan. Throughout the years boutiques have also been opened in Dubai, Doha, Moscow, Istanbul, Taipei and Beijing.

In 2010 when his son Edoardo Caovilla entered the company signalling the third generation, the brand moved away from a family business to a more dynamic and structured company, ready to conceive unique Made in Italy creations, to let its elegant and international customers dream.

Looking ahead, the brand will face new challenges, continuing to be steady present in the mature markets and, at the same time, accelerating the development of its business in the rapid growth countries, including China, South America. For what concerns the products range, there are some projects that aim at its expansion, staying true to the original and outstanding elegance of Caovilla.
